If you’ve been advised to replace your brake pads or discs, here’s what to send for a quote and what to check before booking.

What work has been recommended?

If you already have a repair recommendation or report, send us a copy. It helps to know whether the work is for the front or rear brakes, and whether pads, discs or both have been recommended. If you’re unsure, just send the report or message you were given.

Your vehicle registration and the report help us understand what you need. Photos can help too, but we cannot assess the whole braking system from photos alone.

If you have noticed a problem

Tell us what you’ve noticed, when it happens and whether any warning lights or messages have appeared. If you don’t know what’s causing it, that’s fine. A noise or warning alone does not tell us which part needs replacing.

The Highway Code’s vehicle maintenance guidance says not to ignore warning signs. If you are concerned that braking is unsafe, do not drive to reproduce the problem or reposition the car for a visit. Seek professional advice about a safe next step.

What to send for a quote

  • Vehicle registration: the vehicle’s registration number.
  • Postcode: where the car will be parked for the visit.
  • The work recommended: front or rear brakes; pads, discs or both, if known.
  • Any report: the wording or a clear photo of it.
  • Parking details: access, restrictions and anything that may affect a mobile visit.

Send these details in one WhatsApp message, along with any days that suit you. We’ll discuss the work, location and availability before booking.

Check what each quote includes

Check which parts and labour are included, whether the quote covers the front or rear brakes, and the total price, including any call-out fee or minimum charge. If the work will be charged by the hour, ask for the rate and an estimate. A quote for pads alone covers different work from one for pads and discs.

On our Ford C-Max job, one brake pad had worn down to its backing plate. On the LDV minivan job, an enquiry about brake noise led to an inspection that found a seized caliper. The Renault Trafic rear-brake job needed calipers, discs and pads. Each car needed different work, so we quote for the repairs your car needs.

Ask what happens if more work turns out to be needed. Any extra work and its price should be agreed before it goes ahead. Prices vary by vehicle and the parts needed, so make sure the quote is for your car.

On our Toyota RAV4 brake-pad replacement, we agreed the cost of new fitting hardware with the customer before returning to finish the work.

Get a quote for your car

If you need new brake pads and discs, send us the details above. We’ll discuss a quote and check whether we can do the work where your car is parked.

GOV.UK’s roadworthiness guidance explains that a car can be unsafe even with a current MOT. An online quote or a booking does not confirm that a vehicle is safe to drive. To get ready for the visit, read how to prepare for a mobile mechanic visit.
