The pulley on this Toyota MR2's belt tensioner had broken apart. We replaced the complete tensioner assembly.

Starting fault and failed pulley
The car would not start. There was a burning rubber smell, and the alternator was not charging the battery.
A visual inspection found a burnt-out belt and a failed tensioner pulley. The pulley’s outer section had broken away. We replaced the complete tensioner assembly.
